City Council to give update on Project Marvel Wednesday

SAN ANTONIO — City Council is expected to get an update Wednesday on the infrastructure surrounding Project Marvel.

Project Marvel is the city’s plan to build a sports and entertainment district downtown, including a new Spurs arena.

One the biggest questions remaining is what are they going to do about the traffic that it will bring downtown?

Wednesday afternoon, we’re expected to get an answer about that and how the city plans to pay for it. Specifically, the streets and the parking.

In past meetings, City Manager Erik Walsh has told us they’ve been considering a bond in 2027 that would include street improvements.

The city is also in the process of setting up stakeholder meetings, where we’ll all be able to get more answers to those questions. The city is supposed to let us now when we’ll be able to do that on Wednesday.

“ Where are they going to park,” asked Lori Houston, Assistant City Manager. “What is the traffic going to look like? And then also you have concerns about gentrification displacement. So these charettes would not only be about getting information, allowing the community to hopefully design that fan experience, but also be able to get more details on the specific concerns they’ve expressed for the past couple of months.”

We’ll be getting all of this information Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., during City Council’s B-session, which is public and streamed on the city’s website.

We’ll bring you the latest as soon as we have the information.
