‘City Hall to All’: San Antonio councilwoman proposes rotating city meetings through all 10 districts

Councilwoman Teri Castillo wants to move some City Hall briefing sessions out of downtown and into neighborhoods across San Antonio to increase public participation.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio city councilwoman wants to bring City Hall closer to residents across the city.

Teri Castillo has introduced a proposal called “City Hall to All,” which would rotate certain city briefing sessions through all 10 council districts instead of holding them exclusively downtown.

Currently, many of the city’s B sessions and budget briefings take place Wednesday afternoons at San Antonio City Hall.

Castillo’s proposal would move those meetings into neighborhoods across San Antonio, allowing residents to attend sessions closer to home and provide input before decisions are made.

She said the change could make it easier for residents who may struggle with traveling downtown or finding parking.

“This is to get more public engagement, more participation beyond our specific council offices,” Castillo said. “There’s value in having all of your representatives in one location to hear from you in your neighborhood.”

Castillo also said rotating the meetings could help council members better understand issues affecting communities outside their own districts.

Her proposal will next head to the city’s governance committee, which will decide whether the idea is feasible and if it should move forward.
