ALAMO HEIGHTS, Texas — You need to watch your volume in Alamo Heights because the city has made some changes to help keep the noise down.
And now, Alamo Heights police will have a new tool to help them crack down on violators.
There have been a number of noise complaints over construction and lawn care that’s been happening in the city.
This has resulted in the city deciding to amend their noise ordinance, now allowing the Alamo Heights police to use sound level meters to measure how loud you are if they get a complaint.
They’re breaking it up into three categories and it’s all being measured in decibels.
If you live in a neighborhood, the limit is 63 decibels. Business areas can reach 70, and any event with a special event permit can reach 85.
To be fair in all complaints, the police department would scan the noise from a next-door property or from across the street.
For yard work, the new code limits when you can use gas powered lawn equipment.
Construction isn’t safe either, if you do it before 8 a.m. or 5 p.m., you can face a fine.
Its only allowed in these times if it’s an urgent situation for public safety.
Alamo Heights officials say this will go into effect in November.
Until then, Alamo Heights police will give you a heads up to pipe down if you’re too loud.
