Help is needed with walking and caring for incoming pets, cleaning kennels and more.
SAN ANTONIO — If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to help flood victims and love animals, here’s your chance.
The City of San Antonio Animal Care Services is asking for help caring for the animals being received from the Texas Hill Country.
ACS will be supporting neighboring shelters and the pets affected by this disaster.
“Our team will be transporting animals from impacted areas to our shelter in San Antonio, where they will be safely housed before flying out to northern partners thanks to our friends at the @Bissell Pet Foundation,” said City of SA ACS.
That’s where you come in to help! They need volunteers who can help to assemble transport kennels, take dogs for walks and help to care for them as well. They also need help with cleaning kennels and folks to hep with emergency response as needed.
These are the time frames where they need help:
- Wednesday, July 9 | 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
- Thursday, July 10 | 8 a.m. until noon, noon until 4 p.m.
- Friday, July 11 | Early Morning, time TBD
If you’re ready to give them a hand, you can sign up at saacs.info/emergencyvolunteer.
In addition, if you or someone you know has relocated to San Antonio due to the flooding and you need a little help with items like cat or dog food, leashes, or even collars, they are ready to help.
You can visit their facility at 4710 State Highway 151 or contact them at acscustomerservice@sanantonio.gov.
The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
They will also be accepting donations of pet food and basic supplies. You can drop them off at the facility or mail them to the shelter located at 4710 State Hwy 151, San Antonio, TX 78227.
