SAN ANTONIO — The City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts and Culture and Diez y Seis de Septiembre Commission are hosting the Fiestas Patrias and Hispanic Heritage Month 2025.
The month-long series of events kicked off with an opening ceremony on Monday in Historic Market Square, including a special performance by the Guadalupe Dance Company.
Fiestas Patrias San Antonio is the annual celebration of Dieciséis de Septiembre and Hispanic Heritage Month featuring a series of festivities commemorating Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1810 and honoring San Antonio’s strong connection to Mexico.
Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 and is a chance to celebrate the contributions, accomplishments, and influences of Hispanic and Latin Americans with over 40 events, authentic cuisine, and vibrant cultural experiences.
The event honors the incredible achievements and contributions of people whose cultures and heritages originate from Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
Some of the highlights include a river parade in honor of Dieciséis de Septiembre, a salsa cookoff and a Mariachi festival. It also includes other festivals, music performances, children’s events and even a pinata-making demonstration. There is something for every member of the family.
