SAN ANTONIO — The City of San Antonio wants your input to help rename César E. Chávez Boulevard.
The street is being renamed due to allegations of sexual abuse involving the late civil rights leader Chavez.
Starting Monday, residents will have the opportunity to participate in a survey to share their thoughts as to what to name the street between Southwest 36th Street and South Hackberry Street. Any San Antonian may participate, but the city particularly wants the opinion of those who live along the street.
The one-minute survey will be available until 5 p.m. April 2 in English and Spanish.
Guidelines
The city says they only consider changes for significant reasons. Names should fit the neighborhood through:
- History and Character: Reflecting local stories, important events or geography.
- Honoring Legacies: Recognizing national, state or local leaders and public figures.
- Core Values: Representing principles such as unity or equality.
- Practical Improvements: Fixing spelling mistakes, matching city directions (North, South, East, West) or preventing confusion with similar-sounding streets.
The city will also be hosting two public community meetings, dates and locations to be released soon.
