Citywest Church in Ingram producing mass meals for those affected by the flood, first responders

Ingram and Kerrville football coaches are also helping with delivery.

INGRAM, Texas — Citywest Church in Ingram has been mass producing hot meals for both first responders and those displaced for the Kerr County floods.

“We have meals not just for first responders, but for everyone in the country,” said Tim Thomason with Blind Faith Foundation. “We are producing high volume numbers of hot, fresh delicious meals.”

First responders are continuing their most difficult work along the Guadalupe River, and volunteers putting together meals for those working the disaster front line is helping almost beyond measure.

“I was just in awe watching those guys work,” said Ingram High School football head coach Tate DeMasco. “We’ve actually got to feed them here [the church] for several days. It is emotional because lots of times we will into these places, and they haven’t eaten for two days. They had to skip a few meals because they were so far and deep doing search and rescue.”

We also visited with Kerrville Tivy assistant football coach Jason Dippel. The flood disaster has hit him especially hard.

“Camp Mystic is,” he said, tearing up. “Camp Mystic is part of our family and we have ties to that. Just trying to support them and the area in general. That has been the toughest part. It is one of those where you just grind through it and go.”

Coach DeMasco told us he has assistant coaches running meals deep into the western part of Texas Hill Country to help victims and first responders.

“They go out, turn around and go right back out,” DeMasco said.

And from someone who has spent nearly three decades covering sports on the broadcast end of things, it is amazing how quickly the coaching fraternity can come together to help those in need.

“I’ve had text messages anywhere from Amarillo to Beaumont from El Paso to down in the Rio Grande Valley asking what they can do,” he added. “That’s what we are doing. Coaches are out on the front doing it and our kids are right behind that.”

We also heard today at City West Church that there is a need for gift cards for the area. Anything from H-E-B to Walmart cards. And it’s really beyond the new for essentials right now. They are thinking ahead for the help will need in the next week, two weeks and three weeks down the road moving forward.
