CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Community pride was on full display Thursday night as the Corpus Christi Hooks hosted Gulf Coast Capital Community Night at Whataburger Field.
The annual event, organized by Visit Corpus Christi, highlights the people, culture, and attractions that make the Coastal Bend a popular destination for both visitors and locals.
This year’s celebration included a special moment on the mound, where U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Scott Ruskan threw the ceremonial first pitch. Ruskan is credited with saving more than 160 lives during the deadly Hill Country floods. His participation was coordinated by Visit Corpus Christi.
In addition to the tribute, fans arrived early for a chance to take home limited-edition Hooks jerseys designed to represent the spirit of Corpus Christi. Among those attending were Karina and Clarissa Montemayor, who traveled from out of town specifically for the giveaway.
“We came all the way over just for the jerseys, which is really cool,” said Clarissa Montemayor. “About a two-hour drive—super worth it. The jerseys are so sick and they represent Corpus so well.”
When asked if they visit the city often, Montemayor added, “Not as often as we’d like, but after this, we might have to come more for sure.”
The night also included appearances by local media, including KIII anchor Leslie Adami, who attended the event with her husband Remy.
