Colin Allred launches 2026 US Senate campaign in Texas

Texas Democrat Colin Allred hopes to take the seat of Republican Sen. John Cornyn next year.

TEXAS, USA — There’s a new candidate in the running for U.S. Senate in Texas.

Early Tuesday morning, former Congressman Colin Allred (D-Dallas) announced his official campaign for U.S. Senate in 2026.

“Real change might feel impossible. But I’m not giving up,” he said in an announcement video.

Allred hopes to replace the Senate seat of Republican Sen. John Cornyn, who is running for re-election in the Republican primary against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Allred mentioned Cornyn and Paxton directly in his announcement video, stating that “The people that we elected to help -politicians like John Cornyn and Ken Paxton- are too corrupt to care about us and too weak to fight for us.”

This isn’t Allred’s first time running for Senate, either. In 2024, he faced off against Republican Senator Ted Cruz, but was defeated by 8.5 points.

Before his work in politics, the Dallas native played football at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He then spent several years in the NFL as a linebacker for the Tennessee Titans.

He has also served three House terms.
