Comal County man sentenced in domestic violence case from 2024

Deputies say the woman told them that it wasn’t the first time it had happened with 43-year-old Justin Woodling of Canyon Lake.

CANYON LAKE, Texas — A man will spend 35 years in prison after hitting his partner in the head with a weapon when she tried to call 911 for help.

This happened May 30, 2024, and the woman involved already had a lifetime protection order against the man.

Initially, Comal County deputies say they found the woman outside bleeding with injuries to her face and chest.

Deputies say the woman told them that it wasn’t the first time it had happened with 43-year-old Justin Woodling of Canyon Lake.

Woodling told deputies the woman would intentionally harm himself and her wounds were self-inflicted and claimed she had a history of self-harm.

In Woodling violating the protective order, Comal County prosecutors discussed Woodling’s history already going to prison for domestic violence and drug use.

In 2013 and 2018, court records show his ex-wife, and another woman ask for and were given protective orders against him.

His ex-wife reported him strangling her until she passed out.

In another situation, she reported he pushed her onto a couch, then pressed a sword against her neck until she couldn’t breathe.

When officers responded in this case, Woodling claimed his ex-wife had attacked him and he was defending himself.

The other woman who got a protective order against Woodling says he would stalk her and send messages threating to attack her.

Taking into account his history, the judge sentenced Woodling to 35 years in prison.
