COMAL COUNTY, Texas — Several campuses in Comal ISD were placed on a “secure” status Thursday as a precaution, while additional law enforcement was present at Canyon High School.
District officials say Canyon High School had an increased police presence, but emphasized there is no threat to students or staff.
Schools in the Canyon Lake High School feeder pattern — including Rebecca Creek Elementary, Startzville Elementary, Mountain Valley Elementary, Mountain Valley Middle School and Canyon Lake High School — were placed on secure status.
Under a secure status, students and staff remain inside buildings, all exterior doors are locked and no visitors are allowed on campus. Student dismissal is also temporarily restricted.
Officials say all students and staff are safe and continuing their day as normal inside.
The district reiterated that there is no emergency and that the measures were taken out of an abundance of caution.
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
