Community rallying behind popular burger restaurant in Helotes after devastating fire

Broken glass, burn marks, ripped and broken tiles and a hole in the floor is what employees found when they they got to the Cuarto de Kilo restaurant.

HELOTES, Texas — A Helotes restaurant is back up and running, after a fire broke out in their kitchen Thursday.

Two hours after Cuarto de Kilo closed, the Helotes Fire Department responded to a fire in the back of the burger joint.

Restaurant manager Osiel Gonzalez stated the fire could’ve been much worse if it weren’t for the quick response from the fire department, and the tile behind the location of the fire.

The restaurant was told the fire was believed to have started from the trash can. The cause is still under investigation, but the restaurant was closed Friday for clean-up.

Firefighters did break the glass on the door to get inside.

On Saturday, the door was boarded up but Gonzalez explained they feel nothing but gratitude.

“We had a lot of customers yesterday,” he said. “They came in showing their support. We got a lot of messages, we got a lot of calls. So we’re so thankful. I, I don’t know how to put it in words. We’re like so, so grateful here for the community in Helotes Texas that they have shown their support.”
