‘Complicated story’ | Man shot by San Antonio officer after crashing into car he was following and shooting at, SAPD says

A man allegedly crashed into a vehicle he was following and then opened fire before being shot by San Antonio police on the south side.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department said officers were involved in a shooting on the south side of town.

Around 2 p.m., SAPD responded to 2000 Ann Arbor Drive after receiving a family violence call.

Preliminary information for SAPD suggests either a man was breaking the windows out of his his girlfriend’s, or ex girlfriend’s, car before she called a coworker to pick her up.

When her coworker picked her up, they traveled south only to find the man waiting for them at the location they drove too. They drove away, and the man allegedly followed.

The man chased down the girl and her coworker all the way to the turnaround at Southwest Military Drive before he allegedly rammed into the back of the vehicle.

Shortly after, shots began to be fired and Chief William McManus said officers in the area shot at the vehicle they believed to be firing bullets.

The man was struck and sent to a local hospital.

McManus said the suspect will be placed into SAPD’s custody once he is treated.

No other injuries or suspects were reported at this time.

This is an ongoing investigation.
