Congressman Al Green receives report from USPS Office of Inspector General on mail delay issues

The postal service has told KHOU 11 that the “temporary disruptions” stem from a “network modernization plan.”

HOUSTON — Since we’ve told Congressman Al Green about the mail delay issues at a USPS processing center, he and his office have been working to try and get those impacted some answers.

“We get calls almost every day about this,” he said.

Green has been demanding transparency from the postal service that’s only said the “temporary disruptions” stem from a “network modernization plan,” and they’re working to get packages processed as quickly as possible.

For Green, that response is not enough.

“I’m not satisfied with their response because when I met with them, I explained to them that I expected them to come before the public,” he said.

The congressman exclusively told KHOU 11 that he’s received a report on Houston’s mail system from the USPS Office of Inspector General.

“I can tell you, it’s not the entirety of Houston,” Green said. “It is a report that deals with some facilities in Houston.”

Green believes the issue starts in Washington.

“I think this is not something that the workers have created, but there is something in management that is afoul,” he said. “Something in management has to be corrected.”

For now, the congressman said he still wants to take a tour of the processing facility in his his district and he’s working with other lawmakers, like Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia and Congressman Michael McCaul, to see just how far the problem goes.

“And if it is pervasive, meaning that this is something occurring in other states, I will let the public know,” Green said.

The congressman said he’s planning a news conference next week where he’ll share more information out of that report and information on the efforts to help people who have lost packages.
