CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coastal Bend’s premier pop culture event returned to downtown Corpus Christi on Friday, as Comic Con kicked off a weekend of costumes, collectibles and community at the American Bank Center.
The convention, which draws fans of comics, movies, anime and gaming, features a wide range of attractions, including celebrity photo opportunities, cosplay contests and vendor booths filled with rare merchandise and memorabilia.
Organizers say the event welcomes both seasoned convention-goers and first-time fans.
“Don’t let anybody tell you who you are. Just be you,” said attendee Christian Ramirez. “Be glad that you’re alive, thank God that you’re alive in this world — that you can be who you really want to be. Be Batman, be Superman, Deadpool… It’s all about feeling empowerment for yourself.”
With events scheduled throughout the weekend, organizers are expecting large crowds as fans of all ages celebrate creativity and fandom.
The convention runs through Sunday at the American Bank Center.
