This year’s expanded festival invites everyone to take part in a celebration rooted in freedom, unity, and heritage — right in the heart of our city.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The 8th annual Juneteenth Festival is in full swing in downtown Corpus Christi — and this year, organizers are going big.
The Coastal Bend is marking 160 years since the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached the Texas Gulf Coast in Galveston — a historic moment that gave rise to what we now know as Juneteenth.
Though the history began in Galveston, the celebration is alive and thriving here in Corpus Christi, where the festival has grown into a three-day community event packed with culture, music, and meaning.
Running through Sunday, the event offers something for everyone — with free admission and a wide range of attractions including:
-
On-site health screenings, including mammograms
-
A dedicated Kids Zone
-
Local food trucks and vendors
-
Live music, cultural showcases, and more
The celebration is all about honoring the past while uniting the community in the present.
“Just the coming together as one — seeing all the people together and celebrating, and remembering what it’s all about,” attendee Johnnie Patterson said.
“It means a lot for us to do this for the community,” TABPHE Corpus Christi President Simone Sanders added. “We believe in educating the community about the holiday and also leaving a legacy. Juneteenth has been celebrated in Corpus Christi since 1866.”
This year’s expanded festival is a testament to that lasting legacy and invites everyone to take part in a celebration rooted in freedom, unity, and heritage — right in the heart of our city.
