HOUSTON — Astros fans are feeling the love as Carlos Correa returns, rejoining the team that launched his Major League Baseball career.

Correa’s first day back with the Astros on Friday brought a wave of excitement across Houston. Fans were at the team store and nearby bars to celebrate the return of the All-Star.

“He’s home. I am glad. I am happy,” said Alan Cramer. “It’s the best thing that could happen.”

“So excited,” added fan Renz Alisasis “I can finally see him play for three more years, right?”

“He is right where he belongs,” said Lisa Nino. “We are home.”

The team store was ready with Correa gear.

“I’m getting one for my godson,” said Monica. “I know they didn’t have a youth size… but is he a small or extra small?”

Store employees said only two styles of jerseys were available Friday, but more are expected to arrive soon.

“I bought a Correa jersey — the new style,” said Jesse Trevino.

At local bars like Pitch 25, fans gathered to watch Correa’s return to the field and raise a toast to his comeback.

“It’s an emotional thing,” said John Harrison. “I never wanted to see him leave. Playing third base with Peña — this was in the cards. This is pretty special.”

“True leaders step up,” said David Aguilar. “He chose to play third — that’s big. I’m happy he came back. Come back home. Get another one.”

Some believe Correa’s return could give the Astros the push they need for a postseason run.

“It’s just like a whole rejuvenation for the team — for the whole city,” said Jacob Izaguirre.

“Postseason run is probably the expectation,” Harrison added.

As for old jerseys? Many fans said they never got rid of theirs — just tucked them away.

Now, those Correa jerseys are coming out of the closet once again.
