Cosplayer accused of threatening to plant bomb at San Japan convention

San Antonio police arrested Kendra Noel Manning for a bomb threat at the San Japan Anime convention.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman is accused of threatening to plant bombs at the San Japan – Anime and Gaming Convention in San Antonio over the weekend. 

Kendra Noel Manning, 25, was charged with terroristic threat- impact to public service/public fear – serious bodily injury/influence government. This charge is a third degree felony. 

According to an arrest affidavit from the San Antonio Police Department, officers were informed that Manning, a known social media influencer, had commented on an Instagram story posted by another person identified by their handle as @jake24johnson on Saturday. 

Police say “Jake” was apparently renting a booth at San Japan, located at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center that was taking place from August 29 to August 31. “Jake” initially posted “F*** Gamersupps. Entitled Weirdos.” Manning then commented on the post “planting a bomb in their booth today.” 

According to SAPD, another user saw the comment and notified law enforcement, believing Manning intended to execute the threat. Convention organizers and onsite law enforcement were made aware of Manning’s threat. 

Investigators say, when Manning arrived at the convention later on Saturday she was denied entry and issued a criminal trespass warning. Police also say Manning admitted to posting the threat before leaving the convention. 

Manning was then booked in the Bexar County jail where her bond was set at $35,000. According to online documents, she was released on bond. 

According to their website, San Japan is the largest anime and gaming convention in the South Texas Region. San Japan is a fan-run organization providing an annual anime-focused convention.
