Cougars get top seed; Longhorns sneak into bracket | Five Texas teams picked for NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament

Houston officially claimed their No. 1 seed after a dominant season, while Texas got great news as they made it into the bracket despite SEC struggles.

SAN ANTONIO — Five Texas teams stormed into the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on Sunday as the brackets finally were revealed.

The 68 teams that made it into the tournament will battle over the next few weeks to make it to the Final Four in San Antonio, with semifinal games being played Saturday, April 5, and the championship game on Monday, April 7.

  • Houston was picked as the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region and will start the tournament against No. 16-seeded SIU Edwardsville on Thursday in Wichita.
  • Texas Tech got a No. 3 seed in the West Region and will play the No. 14 seed, UNC Wilmington, on Thursday in Wichita.
  • Texas A&M earned a No. 4 seed in the South Region and will face No. 13-seeded Yale on Thursday in Denver.
  • Baylor received the No. 9 seed in the East Region and will tip off against Mississippi State, the No. 8 seed, on Friday in Raleigh, N.C.
  • Texas snuck into the tournament with a No. 11 seed into the First Four tournament. They will face Xavier (also No. 11) on Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio, after which they would join the main 64-team bracket with a matchup against No. 6-seeded Illinois in the Midwest Region on Friday.
