HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A newborn baby was found along a walking trail in northwest Harris County Saturday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzales said the baby appears to be a premature girl.
This happened just before 9 a.m. on Casa Martin Drive just west of Greenhouse Road.
Investigators said deputies were dispatched to a welfare check at the location. When they arrived at the scene, deputies met with two witnesses who discovered the baby wrapped in a towel.
Deputies said a man and a woman along with their child and two dogs were walking on a trail when they came across the child who was wrapped in a towel. The child was still breathing and appeared to have an umbilical cord attached.
The two witnesses picked up the baby and called 911. The child was taken to the hospital in fair condition.
Investigators said evidence pointed to the baby being born Saturday morning.
Investigators said it was a blessing that the child was not out in the elements for long with highs in the 90s forecasted for Saturday. They told the couple who found the baby that they were “in the right place at the right time.”

Investigators said an unknown male was seen dropping off the baby at the location. They added that they do not have any leads at this time.
They are looking into possible surveillance video of the suspect.
Whoever is responsible could face abandonment of a child and endangerment of a child charges, investigators said.
