Couples brave the cold to say “I Do” on a heartwarming Valentine’s Day at the courthouse

SAN ANTONIO — Five ceremonies and hundreds of couples tied the knot at the Bexar County Courthouse Friday.

We were there to witness the love and talked to some of the newlyweds on their very special day. It may have been cold on this Valentine’s Day but for all of the couples who said “I DO” their hearts are full of warmth.

“The fact that it was on Valentine’s Day just made it so much better. And it’s like a little more interesting than just, you know, going to the courthouse on some random date,” said Ashleigh Murie and Steven Salas who were wedded this morning.

Salas worked with Murie’s sister at Sonic, and always joked to her that he was going to date her sister.

“He scared her coming out of the freezer, the walk in freezer at Sonic and she slapped him in the face. So, that was their relationship. So, the whole I’m going to date your sister was just to make her angry. And then he did it. And now we’re getting married and her signature is on our marriage license,” Murie said.

Bexar County Clerk Lucy Adame-Clark enjoys seeing the happy couples fill up the courthouse every year.

“For me, I know Valentine’s Day because I saw it growing up. Becoming the clerk was something that it was an added bonus as a job to do as a county clerk. So why not?”

Why not is right!

Antonio Jimenez and Rebecca Hebert also decided to tie the knot – on a day full of love and laughter.

“We’re planning to have a ceremony probably in about a year from now. We’ve been engaged for about a year now, and it’s kind of tired of waiting and things keep coming up. So we decided to just do it,” they said.

Jimenez said it really was love at first sight.

“That scene in the movie where, like, everything slows down. I was there with my best friend, and I was like, ‘Man, I love that woman,'” he added.

Did they tell their families they were exchanging rings and vows today? Nope.

So, they found out about it when they saw the newly married pair on KENS 5.
