San Antonio Marathon unveils its inaugural courses, highlighting the city’s culture, iconic landmarks and scenic neighborhoods.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Marathon’s inaugural half and full marathon courses have been revealed!
The theme of the races – set for Dec. 7, 2025, marking San Antonio Sports’ initial effort to replace the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon with its own, locally organized event – is “Every Step Tells a Story.” Organizers with San Antonio Sports have said the routes for both the half and full marathon runs will showcase the city’s diverse culture, iconic landmarks and vibrant neighborhoods.
“The courses have been carefully designed to create a memorable experience while highlighting the unique beauty and history of San Antonio,” said San Antonio Sports President Jenny Carnes in a press release. “We look forward to welcoming participants and spectators from near and far.”
Both courses are set to take off in the area of East Market and South Alamo before heading south into the King William neighborhood, back north along King William and South St. Mary’s streets, and by locales such as San Fernando Cathedral, Majestic Theatre and Veterans Memorial Park. Both routes then head out of downtown as runners journey along the St. Mary’s Strip, under Highway 281 and into Brackenridge Park.
After turning back to head south along Broadway past the DoSeum, runners turn onto East Grayson into Fort Sam Houston. It’s here where the routes diverge: Hal-marathoners turn back to East Grayson towards the Pearl and into downtown while marathoners continue heading north along North New Braunfels. They eventually cross back over 281 along Hildebrand and explore parts of the Monte Vista, Olmos Park and Alamo Heights neighborhoods before returning to Fort Sam Houston and on to downtown.
Both races appear to go by the Alamo in their final stretches before hitting the finish line at East Commerce and South Alamo.
