Cowboys get huge Thanksgiving win over Chiefs, 31-28

Dallas got a home win and something to be thankful for with a win over Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-28.

This Turkey Day matchup is an NFL tradition as both teams competed for the John Madden Thanksgiving Day trophy.

The Chiefs got off to a quick start. Rashee Rice brought in a 27-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes in a two-play drive to go up 7-0. The Cowboys eventually responded as Dak Prescott threw a 15-yard TD pass to CeeDee Lamb.

Kansas City ended the quarter with a last-second two-yard pass from Mahomes to Travis Kelce to seal the 14-7 lead going into the second.

Dallas got the first points on the board in the second quarter as Brandon Aubrey nailed a 49-yard field goal to narrow the margin to 14-10. The Cowboys then got another scoring drive as Malik Davis went for a career-long 43-yard rush into the endzone. Aubrey, of course, nailed the extra point to put Dallas up 17-14.

To end the second half, Dante Fowler got a big sack against Patrick Mahomes to keep Dallas in the lead heading into the third.

The Cowboys were the first to strike coming out of halftime, with Brandon Aubrey hitting a 36-yard field goal to extend Dallas’ lead. It took until the fourth, but the Chiefs got a 21-20 lead off a Mahomes TD pass to Rice.

Dak Prescott came up big on third and goal, hitting Javonte Williams for a touchdown pass and converting the extra point with a pass to George Pickens to go up 28-21. Another Brandon Aubrey field goal put Dallas up by 10, 31-21.

The Chiefs brought it back within three with a 10-yard receiving TD by Hollywood Brown, but the Cowboys were able to hold their lead to win 31-28.
