Cowboys, Javonte Williams agree to 3-year deal

The former free agent’s breakout 2025 season has led to a $24 million extension that may solidify the Cowboys’ backfield situation for the near future.

IRVING, Texas — Javonte Williams’ workhorse 2025 season has resulted in a big cash-in, as the Dallas Cowboys have announced a new 3-year agreement with their current and future feature running back.

The Cowboys made an official announcement not long after two NFL insiders – Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network and ESPN’s Adam Schefter – initially broke news of the deal.

Rapoport’s reporting of an extension of 3 years at $24 million in total is what the Cowboys wound up confirming.

This agreement comes after Williams had a breakout debut season with Dallas in 2025. Williams rushed for a career-high 1,201 yards with 13 total touchdowns (11 rushing), doing more than his fair share to help power a top-10 rushing offense in the NFL and the No. 2 overall offense in the league by total yards per game.

The 25-year-old was drafted by Denver in 2021 and spent four years with the Broncos before signing a one-year, $3 million deal with Dallas last offseason.
