According to a study by Lineups, it takes Prescott just over five minutes of playing time to earn the average American’s annual salary.
DALLAS — The money Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott makes is unimaginable to most Americans.
Despite injury, Prescott still ranks among the NFL’s top earners after signing a record-breaking four-year $240 million contract.
A new study revealed that Prescott makes more in a matter of minutes than most Americans make in a year.
According to a study by sports data group Lineups, the average American salary is $66,622, and the average NFL game lasts around three hours and 23 minutes. With that in mind, Prescott, who earns around $2.5 million per game, would only have to play five minutes and 18 seconds to earn what the average American makes in a year.
Prescott ranked above Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson for how quickly he could earn that $66,622, but he wasn’t at the top of the list. Prescott ranked third, according to Lineups study, falling behind Rams QB Matthew Stafford, who ranked second, and Cardinals QB Kyler Murray, who topped the list. According to Lineups, Murray has to play just four minutes and 41 seconds to make $66,622.
However, Prescott might not be making as much as the study shows. The quarterback is out for the season after undergoing surgery for a hamstring injury, so while he likely won’t be making the full $240 million, $236 million is still guaranteed. Keep in mind that Prescott will still owe federal taxes on all those millions, but being in Texas, he won’t owe any income tax.
Still, that much cash is unfathomable to most in a lifetime, let alone four years. All Cowboys fans can hope is that much money will earn them a Super Bowl win within that time.
