The former Texas Longhorn hopes to find a place in busy Cowboys running back room.
DALLAS — The Dallas Cowboys made the splash off season wide receiver move landing George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the same can’t be said about their running game.
There isn’t as much star power compared to other teams, but maybe that’s an opportunity for someone like Javonte Williams or Miles Sanders? Or maybe there’s a window for fifth round draft pick and rookie Jaydon Blue from the University Of Texas?
Vinnie Vinzetta visited with him one-on-one at Dallas Cowboys Training Camp in Oxnard, California.
“It is going good,” Blue said about how training camp is going. “Just a chance to be around the guys and being able to play football which is what I love doing.”
With the Dallas Cowboys having a worldwide global brand, wearing ‘The Star’ every day means a lot to Blue.
“It has been a dream come true to be able to stay in Texas and play in the NFL,” Blue continued. “It is something I have dreamed of and I know how big this brand is so for me to be able to have the opportunity to be a guy for this NFL team means a lot.”
And the amazing part of Jaydon’s football journey is the geography: he played his high school ball in Houston, his college ball in Austin at the University Of Texas and of course now the beginning of his NFL career in the Dallas metroplex. That is certainly keeping it Texas regional!
“I’m a big family guy and I love being close to home,” he said. “They did me the favor of keeping me in Texas for all of my football career,” he added.
With a seemingly crowded running back room, Blue thinks he can fit in nicely.
“The good news is that all of us can play,” he said. “We have lots of different backs in that room. What I bring to the table is lots of versatility. I’m a guy that can run the ball and also catch the ball out of the backfield, that homerun hitter type threat. I’m just willing to do whatever is best for the room and what helps the team win.”
Jaydon also told us that he does lots of drills and work with his coaches on catching passes out of the backfield because the plays carrying the ball come naturally. He hopes to take his receiving game to “that next level” this year.
His dream first play?
“Just taking one sixty plus yards,” he said. “That is something I really love to do just looking to showcase my speed,” he added.
Vinnie told him to make sure and do that against the Philadelphia Eagles! That we would all love that!
“Yes sir,” he said, smiling.
