LOS ANGELES — The “Point God” has officially announced his plans to retire after 21 years in the NBA.
Twelve-time All-Star Chris Paul posted on X on Saturday that he will retire at the conclusion of the Los Angeles Clippers’ 2025-2026 season. CP3, as he is known around the basketball world, is second all-time in career assists with more than 12,000, second only to John Stockton.
Paul, a future Hall of Famer himself, has played for the Hornets, Rockets, Clippers (twice), Thunder, Suns, Warriors and San Antonio Spurs last season. His stay with the Silver and Black lasted only one year, but he helped mentor two young Spurs stars in Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle.
Paul also, many times, expressed his affection for legendary Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, now retired from the coaching sidelines.
Paul has a legendary resume including 12 All-Star Game appearances, seven NBA All-Defensive First Team nods, five times leading the NBA in assists and four All-NBA First Team accolades. He also is twice an Olympic Gold Medalist for Team USA.
