Crash involving an 18-wheeler caused traffic back up on I-10 east

Officials say that firefighters had trouble getting to the scene because of traffic problems.

SAN ANTONIO — A crash on the east side caused major problems for commuters Monday morning.

San Antonio Police were called to I-10 East at Loop 1604 around 6 a.m. for a major accident involving five or six vehicles.

Police say the driver of an 18-wheeler was traveling eastbound when he was “cut off” by another vehicle, which caused the big rig driver to lose control and hit the concrete barrier. After striking the barrier, the driver also hit other vehicles that were traveling on the highway. This ultimately caused a utility truck to flip and land on its side.

No life-threatening injuries were reported.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area if possible.

Police say this is an active and ongoing investigation.
