Crash involving two 18-wheelers causing major traffic delays, fire officials say

A crash involving two 18-wheelers has caused major delays in San Antonio, leaving two with serious injuries. One person was extracted by the fire department.

SAN ANTONIO — A crash involving two 18-wheelers has caused major traffic delays in an area northeast of downtown Friday morning.

The accident was reported around 9:30 a.m. at I-35 and Austin Street, which is near the Pearl area and the intersection with Highway 281.

Officials with the San Antonio Fire Department confirmed one person had to be extracted from the cab of one of the 18-wheelers. Two patients were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. 

Traffic cameras show that drivers are being diverted off the highway. They are urged to use caution in the area. 

There is no word yet on what led up to the accident. A KENS 5 crew is on the way to scene to gather more information.
