Crews battle heavy fire at north-side apartment complex

Officials say the fire was contained to the attic area and the second floor of the complex.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio fire crews battled a heavy fire at an apartment complex on the north side Monday morning.

Firefighters responded to a structure fire call around 10:30 a.m. at the Hudson Apartments on Blanco Road, near North Star Mall.

When fire crews arrived they saw big flames with lots of smoke coming from the complex – which lead to a second alarm.

Officials say the fire was contained to the attic area and the second floor of the complex.

Fire crews were able to knock the bulk of the fire down and will remain on scene until the fire is completely out, officials say.

Approximately 22 units were damaged by fire, smoke or water but it is unclear how many residents will be displaced. The apartment’s management team, the Red Cross and SAMMinistries are working together to get the residents rehoused.

Officials say everyone made it out of the building safely and no injuries were reported.

Other tenants from surrounding buildings were also evacuated as a precaution.

Officials say Blanco Road south of 410 has been shut down and will remain closed for a few hours. Officials recommend drivers find an alternate route until it is reopened.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

No other information was provided.

This is a developing story.
