Crews battle two-alarm fire at recycling facility in northwest San Antonio

A fire at a San Antonio recycling facility also prompted road closures.

SAN ANTONIO — A recycling facility on the northwest side of San Antonio caught fire Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said. A second alarm was called to help crews put out the flames.

The fire broke out around 2 p.m. at Paper Retriever of Texas at Grissom and Heath Road, where fire crews say a bunch of paper bundled together caught fire, causing flames to spread quickly.

Crews were still putting out hotspots as of 4 p.m. Fire officials say crews will need to stay on scene through the night to completely extinguish the fire.

One person was evaluated for smoke inhalation, but they’re expected to be OK.

Around six to eight blocks of Grissom Road were blocked off as fire crews work to clear the scene.

This is a developing story and further details will be added as they are received.
