Crews recover body of 28-year-old Mississippi man from Lake Lewisville, game wardens say

Search efforts resumed Sunday morning at Lake Lewisville after a man went underwater and didn’t resurface.

LEWISVILLE, Texas — The body of a 28-year-old man was recovered from Lake Lewisville as multiple agencies are searching for a man who went underwater and did not resurface, according to Texas Game Wardens.

Officials said the Texas Game Wardens in Denton County, along with the Lewisville Fire Department and TowBoat U.S., responded to a possible water fatality around 7:45 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities said the man, now identified as 28-year-old Cleveland Whiteside, of Mississippi, was swimming back to a vessel with a woman when he went underwater and did not come back up.

According to the City of Lewisville, the fire department’s dive team responded to the Pier 121 Marina and has identified a location where divers focused their search.

After 10 p.m. Saturday night, the City said the search was called off and no recovery had been made. Crews resumed the search Sunday morning.

On Sunday, Texas Game Wardens announced that they had located Whiteside and turned his body over to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

“Our thoughts are with Mr. Whiteside’s family and friends during this difficult time,” Texas Game Wardens said in a statement.
