Crews respond to large fire at electrical substation in north Fort Worth, officials say

According to Oncor, crews are working to shut off the electricity in the area so fire crews can attack the fire.

ROANOKE, Texas — The Fort Worth Fire Department is responding to a large fire at an electrical substation in north Fort Worth on Wednesday evening.

In a post on X, the department said the fire is located near Seventeen Lakes Boulevard and Henrietta Creek Road.

Officials described the scene as “very active” and urged the public to avoid the area to allow emergency vehicles access.

TxDOT cameras in the area show large smoke clouds and flames coming from the substation.

Oncor confirmed to WFAA that they are aware of the fire and have crews on-site working to shut off electricity so that firefighters can safely attack the fire.

According to Oncor, the fire caused some initial power outages, but they were able to reroute the lines and solve the issue for most. A little after 9:20 p.m., the energy delivery company confirmed that all power had been restored to the affected customers.

The Saginaw Fire Department has also responded to the scene to assist Fort Worth fire crews.

According to FWFD Public Information Officer Craig Trojacek, fire crews are in a “holding position” while they wait to determine whether to let it burn or attempt to douse it with water.

“There is a lot of oil involved, I’m being told probably about close to roughly 30,000 gallons,” Trojacek told media Wednesday night. “We don’t know how much of that is burned off, with it being on fire for the last couple of hours, but that is one of the things that we’re watching is just to make sure.”

Trojacek said the substation suffered “heavy damage,” however, at this time, they don’t believe the fire was created with any criminal intent.

According to Trojecek, 20 homes in the area were notified about the fire, however, they were not ordered to evacuate.
