Crews respond to wildfire at Bastrop State Park

Several evacuations happened Sunday night after the Spring Pine Fire sparked at the Bastrop County park.

BASTROP COUNTY, Texas — Evacuations are currently underway for a wildfire that started Sunday night in Bastrop County. 

According to the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management, the Spring Pine fire began sometime around 8:55 p.m. Sunday at Bastrop State Park, located on Park Road. 

The fire has spread across 40 acres and is 40% contained as of 4:30 a.m. Monday, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service Incident Viewer. 

Highway 21 heading eastbound has been closed since around 10:15 p.m. Sunday, and it’s unclear when the roadway will reopen to drivers. 

Voluntary evacuations also happened Sunday at the park’s historic 1930s cabins and at three residences near the north edge of the park. Those at The Pines at Bastrop RV Park were also evacuated Sunday night as crews addressed the fire. 

Bastrop-area firefighters are working with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Texas A&M Forest Service to manage the fire. 

No additional details are available at this time.
