Customs officials discover more than $602,000 worth of methamphetamine at Laredo checkpoint

CBP officers at the Laredo Port of Entry intercepted over 65 pounds of meth, valued at $600,000, underscoring ongoing efforts against drug smuggling.

SAN ANTONIO — U.S. Customs and Border Protection reportedly seized more than $602,000 worth of methamphetamine earlier this month. 

Packages containing 65 pounds of methamphetamine were discovered by CBP officers at the Laredo Port of Entry on Sunday, Feb. 8. The agency says an officer sent a 45-year-old man from Mexico to secondary inspection. The search involved a canine and a “nonintrusive inspection system.”

The meth totals up to more than $600,000 and represents more than 100,000 lethal doses.

The drugs and vehicle were seized and the driver was arrested. Homeland Security Investigations special agents are investigating.
