TEAGUE, Texas — Two dogs received from Dallas Animal Services (DAS), which drew ire on social media alleging animal cruelty, have been voluntarily surrendered, evaluated and verified with no evidence of abuse, and are set to be placed with an out-of-state organization, according to Teague police.
The City of Teague told WFAA in a statement that the dogs’ owner voluntarily surrendered both animals to Teague Animal Control, and a rescue volunteer assisted in transporting the dogs to DAS, the facility where they were originally received.
During this transfer, Teague’s Animal Control Officer confirmed there were no signs of abuse or neglect and that both dogs appeared to be in good health.
In the statement previously released by DAS, the Dallas Police Department Animal Cruelty Unit reviewed the incident and “found no signs of animal cruelty.” DAS said they also contacted the local police department to request a welfare check, where that unnamed department also reported that they found no evidence to support any criminal activity related to animal cruelty.
When the dogs were transferred back to DAS, the DAS veterinary staff conducted a thorough evaluation and verified that the dogs are healthy and receiving appropriate care, Teague police said.
Those dogs are now being transferred to a foster home for a 48-hour hold, after which they will be placed in an out-of-state adoption organization, according to Teague PD.
“The City of Teague extends its sincere appreciation to the dogs’ owner, Teague Animal Control, the rescue volunteer, Teague Police Officers, and the staff at Dallas Animal Services for their professionalism and compassion throughout this process,” the statement read.
