Dallas Mavericks dance with injury continues: Maxi Kleber out with foot fracture

Maxi Kleber will be sidelined for a significant period due to a fractured right foot sustained in a game against the Celtics.

DALLAS — The injury woes just keep coming for the Dallas Mavericks.

After an NBA Finals rematch Saturday night, where the Mavericks fell 107-122 to the Boston Celtics, Dallas forward Maxi Kleber suffered a fractured right foot and will be out for a significant amount of time, the team announced.

Kleber has seen a dip in his numbers this season, averaging a career-low in points (3), rebounds (2.8), three-point percentage (26.5%) and field goal percentage (38.5%). The German-born player was signed by the Mavs in 2017.

The Kleber news comes amid a season of injury for Dallas, who most recently lost key sophomore center Dereck Lively II — also with a fractured foot. Backup center Dwight Powell was also out for tonight’s game with a hip strain. With Kleber now out for a significant period, the Mavs are running low on bigs.

The Mavs have also been without guard Dante Exum, who has been out since sustaining a wrist injury during training camp and undergoing surgery.

The team has also been without its franchise player — Luka Doncic. However, there is good news on that front as NBA Insider Marc Stein reported that Doncic will be back before the All-Star break
