DALLAS — Dallas’ first professional women’s soccer team broke the state record for attendance at a pro women’s sporting event Saturday for their matchup against Mexico’s Club América Femenil, the team announced.
Dallas Trinity FC lost 3-1 to Liga MX’s Club América Femenil Oct. 18 in the inaugural State Fair Clásico in Cotton Bowl Stadium, but the turnout for the game — scheduled during the final weekend of the State Fair of Texas — was a clear win.
Attendance reached 22,838 for the matchup, surpassing the previous Texas record, which was set Sept. 18, 2022, by the KC Current vs. Houston Dash for a game that drew 21,284 at PNC Stadium in Houston.
The turned also broke a Dallas record, topping the previous high set by the June matchup between the Indiana Fever and the Dallas Wings at American Airlines Center. That game drew 20,409 fans, the release states.
Dallas Trinity FC also announced that the game was Club América Femenil’s most attended game on U.S. soil, too.
Club América’s Sarah Luebbert scored the first goal of the match in the 34th minute before forward Bruna Villamala doubled the visitors’ lead in the 39th minute. Club América then expanded its advantange just before the end of the first half when defender Annia Mejia scored the team’s third goal.
Sealey Strawn scored Dallas Trinity FC’s first and only goal in the 70th minute of the game.
Also of note: Competitive eater Joey Chestnut provided a remarkable halftime “performance” at the event, eating 114 Crab & Mozzarella Arancini — the 2025 State Fair of Texas “Best Taste – Savory” winner.
Dallas Trinity FC will next face the DC Power at 4 p.m. Nov. 2 at Cotton Bowl Stadium.
All the team’s matchups are available to stream on Peacock.
