Dallas Wings make trade with Seattle Storm

The move comes after the Wings’ loss Friday to the Las Vegas Aces.

DALLAS — The Dallas Wings announced a trade with the Seattle Storm on Saturday following Friday night’s loss to the Las Vegas Aces.

The Wings announced they traded two future draft picks to the Seattle Storm for center Li Yueru. As part of the deal, the Storm will receive Dallas’ 2026 Second Round pick, which includes the right to swap with the Connecticut Sun, and Dallas’ 2027 Third Round pick, which includes the right to swap with the Indiana Fever.

Yueru, a 6-foot-7 center, began her professional career in China in 2015, playing for the Guangdong Dolphins of the Women’s Chinese Basketball League. She’s continued to represent her country on the Chinese national team, most recently leading China with team highs of 17.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Yueru was selected 35th overall by the Atlanta Dream in the third round of the 2019 WNBA draft. She didn’t make her WNBA debut until the 2022 season, when she played 16 games with the Chicago Sky following a pair of trades.

She averaged 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds over 16 games with the Sky in 2022. She missed the 2023 season because of injury and was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks before the 2024 season.

Yueru spent the 2024 season in LA, playing in 38 games and averaging 5.1 points and 3.7 rebounds, before being traded to the Seattle Storm in February.

Ahead of the trade announcement, the Wings announced Saturday morning that they had released guard Kaila Charles from their roster, after they fell to the Aces Friday night 88-84.

“Thank you, Kaila,” the team wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter. “The Dallas Wings have waived Kaila Charles.”

The Wings’ loss to the Aces Friday puts them at 1-11 on the season.
