DART unit inspects west side property amid criminal activity concerns, officials say

SAN ANTONIO — City officials were investigating a west side property Tuesday morning as part of an ongoing effort to address health, safety and criminal concerns, according to DART.

Officials said inspections began around 10:30 a.m. at a property in the 2600 block of Colt Drive following concerns tied to the site’s code violations and criminal history.

Officials said the investigation focused on an accessory structure on the property that was believed to be used as shelter and associated with ongoing criminal activity. According to DART, reported concerns included family disturbances and assaults involving weapons and firearms.

DART officials said police believed the conditions at the property posed a risk to the health, safety and welfare of the surrounding community, prompting the inspections unit to respond in an effort to address the issue and identify possible solutions to eliminate what officials described as a nuisance.

The inspection was conducted under a warrant focused on evaluating the condition of the property and structures on site, according to DART. As of Tuesday morning, the inspection was still ongoing and no determinations had been made.

DART unit officials said officers were directing individuals at the property to appropriate city resources. Officials did not immediately say whether anyone was detained.

The investigation remains ongoing and officials said more information may be released as it becomes available.
