The Alamo celebrates Davy Crockett’s 239th birthday with a costumed historian and special events today.
SAN ANTONIO — Saturday marks the birthday of one of the most infamous men who defended the Alamo and the celebration took place right where he stood in the 1800s.
David, better known as Davy Crockett, would be 239 years old on August 17, 2025. On Saturday, the Alamo honored the “Lion of the West’s” legacy.
Crockett was born in 1786, in eastern Tennessee and died while defending the Alamo on March 6, 1836. He was 49.
Reenactments took place near the Alamo as descendants of the Tennessee congressman watched Saturday.
Every visitor had the opportunity to see where Crockett allegedly died while defending the Alamo, along with other sites of historical significance related to the pioneer.
“We have a responsibility to pass on this heritage and tradition,” Errol Flannery, the 4th great-grandson of Crockett, said.
Crockett’s Rifles, along with other artifacts from his life, are now on display in the Alamo exhibits for the first time ever. Those will be available at the Ralston Family Collection Center behind the Alamo until further notice.
