Day four of emergency response to Camp Mystic, area hardest hit during flooding

Department of Public Safety troopers are only letting residents and emergency response through at this time.

INGRAM, Texas — At Camp Mystic, everyone from emergency crews to volunteers are assisting in the ongoing rescue and recovery in Kerr County.

It is day four of emergency response since catastrophic flooding hit the area, wiping out camps along the Guadalupe River.

As the death toll continues to climb, officials said there are still 10 campers and one counselor missing from Camp Mystic.

On Monday, Texas DPS troopers were filtering the long line of people in and out on the road leading to Camp Mystic in Ingram, only letting residents and emergency response through.

Horses, giant excavators and equipment, Texas law enforcement agencies, food trucks and community support all being seen going through the checkpoint.

DPS troopers checked people’s drivers licenses to ensure that if they come through the check point, that they do in fact live in the area.

With crews going in and out of the area constantly, traffic is backed up for miles.

KENS 5 crews couldn’t get down to Camp Mystic but cameras captured the devastation over the weekend. Windows were blown out, with doors off hinges and camper’s belongings scattered all over the campgrounds.

All weekend, crews have been working non-stop to search the area. They are having to work through trees, boulders, debris and mud to find whatever or whoever they can.

The tragic scene is just glimpse of what families and first responders are facing at this time.
