Daycare employee accused of injuring child at licensed Bexar County facility

An arrest affidavit states the young boy needed stitches as a result of his head injury on Tuesday.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A daycare employee has been accused of injuring a child at a licensed daycare facility in north Bexar County.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an injured child Tuesday at the facility. Officials said deputies were able to review surveillance video from inside a classroom while the child was evaluated for a head injury.

According to an arrest affidavit, the young victim’s mother told authorities responding to KIDUS Daycare Preschool along Bulverde Road that her child reported being hurt by 50-year-old Veronica Jimenez. The boy’s injury was so severe, the affidavit also states, that he needed stitches.

The video footage of the classroom showed the incident began when a boy knocked over a wooden shelf, the affidavit states. Jimenez allegedly was seen approaching the boy and grabbing him, “causing the child victim to forcefully hit his head and body against a wooden shelf and fall to the floor.”

Jimenez allegedly gave investigators a different story, saying the child was running around when he fell and hit his head, causing the injury. Later, when the investigator confronted Jimenez over the discrepancy between her account and the footage, she said she “did not grab the child victim’s arm but instead accidentally bumped him when she was attempting to pick up the knocked-over shelf,” the affidavit states.

After watching the video, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says management fired Jimenez and notified officials. An arrest warrant was obtained and she was arrested and charged with injury to a child causing reckless bodily injury.

According to jail records, Jimenez was released the same day.
