San Antonio officially announced the acquisition of the All-Star point guard Monday.
SAN ANTONIO — When the San Antonio Spurs announced they had acquired All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings, they initially said he would wear jersey No. 2.
However, that’s now changed, as the Spurs said later on Monday he’ll wear jersey No. 4. There’s a personal connection for the 27-year-old Fox: His wife Recee Fox, who grew up in San Antonio and attended Johnson High School, wore No. 4 while playing at Texas Tech, where she was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention as a sophomore.
The team posted photos of Fox in his new Silver & Black threads with the updated jersey number. He’s expected to join the team for its Wednesday game in Atlanta.
A timely commercial tweak
Fox and Curry Brand also released a new sneaker commercial, which includes a hat tip to his new team.
The Spurs guard shows off his signature sneakers when he mentions his quickness on the floor. He is so fast, he says, that he can play in any shoe… even cowboy boots with spurs.
“Fast in cowboy boots. Even faster with spurs,” posted Curry Brand on social media.
In Fox the Spurs now have a bona fide running mate for star center Victor Wembanyama. This season, Fox has averaged 25.2 points, five rebounds and 6.2 assists per game while shooting 46.8% from the field.
The dynamic guard will provide a legitimate scoring threat and is expected to be a perfect pick-and-roll partner with Wemby.
“His resume speaks for itself. He is a top player in the league on both ends of the floor and dynamic in every sense of the word,” said acting head coach Mitch Johnson about Fox ahead of Monday’s game in Memphis.
