Debris cleanup effort mobilizes in Kerr County to safeguard bridges

Debris removal contractors are prioritizing bridge protection on Kerr County roadways.

KERR COUNTY, Texas — Debris removal contractors have joined the forces at work in Kerr County trying to restore order to state roadways.

A fleet of large trucks with grapplers are now working their way around the area, with a priority of protecting bridges from further damage.

With regard to private property that is still overwhelmed with flood debris, the City of Kerrville and Kerr County have issued a joint release saying they are working with state and federal partners to remove and manage debris.

Highlights of their one page update, that includes clear graphics about how to safely put refuse out for pickup, has the following tips:

  • Large piles on private property must be submitted to 2-1-1 to be evaluated and scheduled.
  • Check their websites for pick-up schedules
  • Separate debris into appropriate piles
  • In urban areas stack debris on the street Right-Of-Way clear of sidewalks, fire hydrants, meters and utility poles
  • In rural areas stack debris in a way that leaves drainage areas clear, between fence lines and roadways
