SAN ANTONIO — The City of San Antonio says private information regarding some candidates either running for mayor or city council was accessible to the public for several hours due to a “mistake.”
According to the city, during the first day of election filing, a city employee accidentally uploaded background documents containing personal information of 10 candidates. The information was accessible through the city’s website, but once city personnel realized the mistake, the material was immediately taken down.
“The City deeply regrets this incident and is taking steps to help prevent any future incidents of this nature,” Luke Simons with the City of San Antonio said in a statement.
Officials say the information was accessible for about five hours and believes “very few individuals accessed the data.”
The 10 candidates who were affected were notified of the situation.
No other information was provided.
