DEL RIO, Texas — A man has been arrested after Del Rio police say he shot an officer before barricading himself in a home.
At 7:28 a.m. Sunday morning, DRPD officers were called to the 900 block of East 10th Street for a vehicle alarm.
When they arrived, a white GMC Sierra had its alarm sounding in a carport. While trying to make contact with the residents, DRPD says the front door was open and, after announcing they were present multiple times, entered the residence for a welfare check.
Once inside, they encountered 37-year-old Eric Anthony Castillo, who allegedly pointed a handgun at the officers, firing multiple shots. One of the shots hit an officer in the upper thigh. The officer returned fire, causing Castillo to retreat, barricading himself in the home, according to police.
After additional officers arrived on scene, Castillo exited the home and was taken into custody.
The officer who was shot was taken to the hospital where they are in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Castillo has been charged with three counts of deadly conduct-discharge of a firearm, one count of aggravated assault on a public servant and one count of attempted capital murder of a peace officer.
