Deputies arrest woman after alleged DWI stop turns into chase

BCSO says a suspected drunk driver sped off during a traffic stop and was later arrested at her home.

SAN ANTONIO — A DWI arrest ended with a chase and a woman in custody after deputies say she tried to avoid trouble but instead added even more charges.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says deputies spotted Janellcie Gibbons driving in the center of a no-passing zone. When deputies attempted to pull her over, authorities say she initially refused to stop.

Once she finally pulled over, deputies reported signs of impairment. According to BCSO, Gibbons was slurring her speech and even handed deputies her debit card instead of her driver’s license.

Deputies then asked her to step out of the vehicle to perform a field sobriety test. Instead, officials say Gibbons put the car in drive and sped off.

A pursuit was started but quickly called off because deputies already had her identity, according to BCSO.

Investigators were later able to track Gibbons down at her home. Deputies say she refused to cooperate, but she was eventually taken into custody.

Gibbons is now charged with evading arrest and driving while intoxicated. Authorities say she has since made bond.
