Deputy finds meth, firearms during welfare check along I-37 in Atascosa County

A routine welfare check along I-37 in Atascosa County led to the arrest of a man after deputies found 16 grams of methamphetamine and 10 firearms in his vehicle.

ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas — What began as a routine welfare check late Sunday night ended with a drug and weapons arrest along Interstate 37, according to the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before midnight, Deputy Sanchez stopped to check on a driver parked on the side of the road near FM 536 and I-37.

Authorities said the vehicle was running and the driver appeared to be passed out behind the wheel, with what looked like a meth pipe in his lap.

During a search, deputies reportedly found 16 grams of methamphetamine and 10 firearms inside the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Ronald Grant, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (PG-1, 4 to 200 grams) and unlawfully carrying a firearm.

Grant was booked into the Atascosa County Jail without incident.
