Devine Fire Chief arrested amid sexual harassment allegations, officials say

Medina County Sheriff, Randy Brown, confirmed Fire Chief Greg Atkinson turned himself in and has been booked into the county jail.

DEVINE, Texas — A San Antonio-area fire chief turned himself in to the Medina County Jail Thursday morning, following allegations of official oppression – sexual harassment.

Greg Atkinson, the Fire Chief of Devine Fire & Rescue, has been with the department for just over two years, according to the agency’s website

Medina County Sheriff, Randy Brown, shared additional details about what led up to the arrest.

Brown said on Feb. 13, there was an outcry from a former female employee of the Devine Fire & Rescue that caused them to open an investigation into the situation.

“From that, we discovered some of the allegations were true,” said Brown. “He used his position and tried to obtain favors because of his position.”

Physical evidence obtained by Medina County investigators includes lewd photographs, Sheriff Brown explained.

“We definitely find no pleasure in this. There was allegations made and we have a duty to investigate,” said Brown. It’s very sad. I know the fire chief and I wish this was not something we were having to do…it’s not a happy time for anybody that’s for sure.”

In conducting further interviews to see if there are more victims, Sheriff Brown said his investigators keep getting additional names of people they should talk to.

Brown asks anyone who is a current or former employee of Devine Fire & Rescue to reach out if they believe they can contribute to the investigation.

“If someone was part of that organization or attended an EMT class that felt like they were wronged or done wrong, reach out to us,” said Brown.

This is an ongoing investigation.
